As soon as that first cool breeze hit and the leaves started to change, I knew it was time to shift gears at home. Fall is more than a season to me — it’s a feeling. And this year, I gave my apartment a quarterly enhancement never seen before with a little inspiration from Crate & Barrel’s autumn collection.
If you’re in a smaller space and want to bring that cozy fall vibe into your home (without turning it into a pumpkin patch), here’s how I styled mine — all in a way that felt simple, and much like me.
Gold & Brass Accents That Changed Everything
One of the easiest updates I made to the space was adding gold and brass colored accents around my living space. I swapped out a few everyday items for versions with a subtle metallic shine: brushed gold salt and pepper shakers and utensils and a brass pumpkin with a brass candle snuffer and wick trimmer.
The gold didn’t feel flashy, but it did make certain aspects of the home pop more. Paired with darker hues like burnt orange/rust, the vibe instantly shifted from summer to autumn.

Pumpkins & Gourds for the Win
I’ll admit it: I love pumpkins. But instead of going overboard with orange, I kept it a little more refined this year by mixing in neutral ceramic pumpkins, clay-based gourds and glass pumpkin decor in varying sizes. Crate & Barrel had the perfect ones in creamy whites, matte finishes, and even a few with textured detailing that look handmade.
I placed an assorted mix of pumpkins and gourds on my kitchen island — immediately visible when you first walk into my home. The kitchen got the most attention as it happens to be the centerpiece of my space and the decor used are the kind of pieces that feel festive without doing too much to the apartment.

Fall Candles, of Course
If I had to pick one item that defines the season for me, it’s a good fall candle. I located a few great finds from Target such as their pumpkin spice and pumpkin bourbon scents that really make it feel like autumn.
The best thing about these candles are that they’re not just for scent. They mimic the shape of pumpkins, so the products overall are both visually and olfactorily pleasing. You can place them anywhere, but my kitchen counter took the baton when I was originally working on styling my space.
Small Space, Big Fall Feel
I didn’t overhaul my entire apartment. I just made small changes that shifted the energy of the space and made it more in tune with the season.
With a few well-placed gold accents, some aesthetically pleasing candles, and a handful of ceramic pumpkins, my home feels less like I’m counting down to winter and more like I’m enjoying every cozy second of fall.
